Resident United Network
Residents United Network (RUN) is a statewide organization that builds power amongst community stakeholders, organizers, and affordable housing staff to address the housing crisis in California and ensure that everyone has access to a safe, stable home. RUN spans throughout California and is present in seven regions: Bay Area, Sacramento, Central Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Coachella Valley/Inland Empire, and San Diego.
Our Story
Everyone says they want to fix California’s housing crisis. But most of the time, the people making laws about housing in California are homeowners, not people who have struggled to afford a place to live. RUN changes that equation, connecting people who live in affordable housing and people who have experienced homelessness with each other to advocate for better state housing laws. Our members, from community leaders in San Juan Capistrano to hotel and resort workers in Anaheim: we want all Orange County residents to have a key to a home they can afford.
Mission Statement
RUN brings together people who live in or need affordable housing and who believe every Californian deserves a safe and stable place to call home. RUN leaders draw on their life experiences to pass state and local laws for housing justice for themselves, their neighbors, and generations to come. Our priority areas are:
More Affordable Housing
Make affordable housing easier to find and get
Unhoused people belong in our communities
Protect People/Protect Renters
Our Advocacy
RUN brings together members from all seven regions twice a year for two major statewide events: our Annual Advocacy Day and the Annual RUN Summit.
Advocacy Day is a powerful opportunity for RUN members to engage directly with state legislators, championing the key bills and policy priorities of our movement. It’s more than just a day at the Capitol, it's a hands-on experience in civic engagement. Members sharpen their public speaking, storytelling, and policy skills while forging meaningful relationships with lawmakers to strengthen long-term collaboration and influence.
The Annual RUN Summit is our time to reflect, connect, and strategize. Members gather to assess progress on regional and statewide campaigns, share insights, and align on our goals for the year ahead. The Summit also provides space for open dialogue around priorities, internal structures, and organizational growth, all while celebrating the wins, big and small, that we've achieved together.
